If you are out of the U.S. for more than a year, you will have the allowance for your overseas income. Last year or 2007, if you were not in the U.S. of more than 330 days, you are able to claim for the allowance of your salary income. Still you need to file out the Form 1040 together with Form 2555 Foreign Earned Income to the IRS. I remember there are a couple of U.S. tax accountant to prepare the forms for the expatriates.
