x/6 - a million = 5 first you opt to isolate x on one side. for this reason you opt to isolate x on the left edge of the equation in view that's going to be much less stressful. x/6 = 5 + a million (upload 1to the two aspects so as to cancel out the minus a million) x = 6 x 6 (multiply six to the two aspects to cancel the six interior the denominator x = 36

x/6 -1=5
FIRST STEP:
add -1 over to 5 (if it is a minus, you would add it)
(if it was a plus, you would subtract it)
x/6-1 = 5
x/6 -1=+1
(-1 + 1 = 0, you cancel it out)(5+1=6)

x/6 = 6

now you can think of it like this :
what number divided by 6 equals 6 ?
redo the equation like this: (division turns into multiplycation)
6 times 6 equals = 36
x/6 = 6
x*6 = *6
(the 6's cancel out)
so you are left with x
x = 36

x/6-1=5
36/6=6

5=5
X = 36!

x/6 = 6 (add the 1 to 5)
x = 36 (multiply 6 by 6)

x/6 - 1 = 5
x/6 = 5 + 1
x/6 = 6
x = 6(6)
x = 36
2008-03-18 7:08 am
x/6-1=5
(6) (x/6) + (6)-1 = (6) 5
x - 6 = 30
x= 36
