2 (w + 1) = 6 + w
2 w + 2 = 6 + w
2w - w = 6 - 2
w = 4
first open up the bracket first
(6w + 6)/3 = 6 + w
6w + 6 = 18 +3w.......multiply 3 on each side
3w = 12
w = 4>>>>>>>answer =)
The first person was right, but she got the last line wrong...
w = 4, because when you subtract 2 from 6 it is positive 4, not negative 4
6 [(w+1) / 3] = 6+w
(6w+6)/3 = 6 + w
6w + 6 = 18 + 3w
3w = 12
w=4
6[(w + 1)/3] = 6 + w
2(w + 1) = 6 + w
2w + 2 = 6 + w
2w - w = 6 - 2
w = 4
Wow 3 answers all different! I think Joanne L is right - i think w=4
6[(w + 1)/3] = 6 + w
2(w + 1) = 6 + w
2w + 2 = 6 + w
w = 6 - 2 = 4
w = 4
Is it
6 [(w+1) / 3] = 6+w
w=6 [(w+1) / 3]-6
w=[(6w+6)/3]-6
w=2w+2-6
-w=-4
w=4?
6 [(w+1) / 3] = 6+w
taking 6 inside
(6w+6)/3= 6+w
taking the denominator 3 and multiplying with other side we get
(6w+6)= 18+3w
6w-3w=18- 6
3w=12
w=4
(I take it the brackets [] only mean parentheses, not integer floor? If so here's your solution)
6 ((w+1) / 3) = 6+w
2 (w+1) = 6+w
2w +2 = 6+w
w = 4 [thanks to Nicki H for correcting a sign error here. And sour grapes to the people who give thumbs-down.]
