going into a university in hk or in other countries

It is very difficult to rank them as they all have different strengths and weaknesses. I am a student studying in Canada, and have done a lot of research on all three schools.

UBC: It is more academic, but with a high reputation around the world. If you try to take a look at a more fair ranking by Shanghai JiaoTong University, UBC is ranking 33rd with its low tuition ($4000USD/year). If you are planning to return to Hong Kong after your studies, UBC will sound really nice to your future employers. However, UBC is a huge school with around 40000 thousand people. Its business, asian studies, engineering departments are famous around the world. It campus is very big, so it takes a lot of time traveling on campus.

SFU: It is more like a liberal arts university, with majors like communications, media, publishing, film, etc. It includes courses that are more practical. It is famous for its film and tv production. It is a compartively smaller university in # of students wise, therefore it's called comprehensive university. However, SFU is not too famous in Asia Region, so you might want to consider this fact as well. Note that there is a common comment to the school campus that it looks like a prison, which is very depressing from November to March. Its main-campus is not that big since it is on the mountain, and cannot be expanded. SFU have lower admission standards and more tempting scholarships than UBC.

HKU: As the education systems of Canada and Hong Kong are very different. HKU requires you to choose your major first year, which sometimes people ended up not liking their majors and have to start all over again. Overall, it is a good school.
