棍與石將碎我骨,但銘終無害[於]我
Dear Readers
First, let me thank DTC for the list of “N” words, from which I would like to amplify a little on the word NAME.
A word by which an individual person or thing is denoted; or the word or words by which a class of persons or things is designated and distinguished from others, is called NAME.
At the present day of civilization, the NAME of a person bears double; i.e. his patronymical NAME, a Christian NAME or distinctively a personal NAME, which precedes his patronymic, in which in some countries, stands last. However, either of these name-elements may often consist of two or more NAMES as component parts; i.e. a third NAME, sometimes called the middle NAME.
That which is commonly and figuratively represented in a person is his NAME that exists in the memory of thoughts of others. It represents reputation, character and benevolence.
A good NAME in honesty, fame, renown, honor, eminence and distinction, is worth many folds more than gold.
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me.
