Actually, you should consider which type of Video Camera you want such as DV, mini-DV, DVD, Harddisk etc.
For myself, I've purchased a DVD Video Camera which using 8cm DVD-R or DVD-RW as the recording media. I felt it is convenience and small in size and only cost 2XXX.
In general speaking, the Harddisk type shall be the best one even the price is higher compare with other types. However, it did not need to use the DV tape or DVD disk. You only need a computer/external harddisk for editing and storage. It is good for those pofessional and heavy duty user.
For general home use (less than 2 times per month), the DVD type is recommended. Canon is good. You may go to there show room to play before making decision.
For Harddisk type, JVC has the longest history and experience. Also, Panasonic has some good model with Lecia Lens (3CCD etc.)
For Sony, I do believe they will try to have the new Blue-ray in the coming months. As this is the finalized future specification in the market, you may wait for a short time to make the final decision
Finally, don't try to buy the DV or mini-DV type.
