- 1/4 = (3 - 2x-1)/(x+2)? < i'm assuming there should be parenthesis?

(-1/4) (x+2) = 3-2x-1 multiply both sides by x-2
(-1/4x) -1/2 = 3-2x-1 distribute
(-1/4x) -1/2 = 2 -2x combine like terms
(-1/4x) = 5/2 - 2x add 1/2 to both sides
7/4x = 5/2 add 2x to both sides
x = 10/7 divide both sides by 7/4

a million/4 = 3 - (2x - a million)/(x + 2) 3 - a million/4 = (2x - a million)/(x + 2) (x + 2)(12/4 - a million/4) = 2x - a million (x + 2)(11/4) = 2x - a million 11(x + 2)/4 = 2x - a million 11(x + 2) = 4(2x - a million) 11*x + 11*2 = 4*2x - 4*a million 11x + 22 = 8x - 4 11x - 8x = -22 - 4 3x = -26 x = -26/3

1/4 = 3 - (2x - 1)/(x + 2)
(x + 2)/4 = 3x + 6 - 2x + 1
x + 2 = 12x + 24 - 8x + 4
x - 12x + 8x = -2 + 24 + 4
-11x + 8x = 22 + 4
-3x = 26
x = 26/-3
x = -8 2/3

And I will solve it using your typing :equation is " -1/4 = 3 - 2 x -[1 / x] + 2" and solution is x = { 21 +/- sqrt315} / 16...next time type it like you want it to be solved....ah , a 2nd might be " -1 / 4 = 3 - {2x-1} / { x + 2 } " ----> 0 = 5x + 30 or x = -6

1/4=(3 - 2x -1) / (x+2) To solve we have to isolate the variable
(x+2)/4 = (3-2x-1) multiply both sides by (x+2)
(x+2) = 4(3-2x-1) multiply both sides by 4
x+2 = 12-8x-4 distribute
x+2= -8x + 8 combine like terms
x= -8x +6 subtract 2 from both sides
9x=6 add 8x to both sides
x=9/6 divide both sides by 9
x= 2/3 reduce
Plug it in and see if it works

lets see..

the lcd would be 4(x+2)

so if you multiple that on both sides you would get

-(x+2) = 4(3-2x-1)

-x-2 = 12-8x -4
7x = 10
x = 10/7
