Scotland is a nation within a union, just like texas or california. They have their own government which decides on certain things. They also have not suffered from genocide for a long long time, if ever, like the kosovars have. So the situation is totally different and cannot be put into the same context.

Yes it is a Sovereign Country, but as part of a United Kingdom. They could if they wanted too. Let's hope they don't, I like them as in the British Family

it is not a soverign country although it does have a devolved parliament (formed in the last 10 years)which decides most issues pertaining to scotland, has it's own law system (including a third possible outcome of 'not proven'-where the jury believes the person is guilty but that the evidence provided is not good enough. that person can then be tried again if new evidence comes to light).
it could declare independance but only if a national referendum it held and if the people vote for it by a two thirds majority.

Scotland is part of the UK. I suppose it COULD declare independence the way Kosovo did, but it probably wouldn't find much support even among "colonials" of Scottish descent.

Scotland is not a sovereign nation. And I believe it would be very foolish of them to declare independence from the United Kingdom. They would have much to lose and very little to gain.
