HIR is mediated by B-Lymphocytes and Helper T-Cells. The mechanism is to kill pathogens directly by producing specific antibodies. HIR mainly works in our body fluid, lymph and blood.
CMIR is mediated by Cytotoxic T-Cells and Helper T-Cells. The mechanism is to kill infected/abnormal tissue cells (such as cancer cells) by lysing them directly, which can stop them from spreading the disease or growing. CMIR mainly works in our tissues.

B-Cells = B-Lymphocytes
T-Cells = T-Lymphocytes, but there are several kinds of T-Cells in terms of their functions. Cytotoxic T-Cells and Helper T-Cells are two of them.

HIR (hence, antibodies) only work when a foreign antigen is present, if the cause of the disease is the tissue cell of the animal itself (infected cells that continue to produce pathogens, cancer cells, these are YOUR OWN cells), antibodies won't be able to do anything against them.

Therefore a different mechanism (CMIR) is required to kill these cells. In short, HIR kills foreign cells, while CMIR kills your own cells.
