y is the mass number of isotope yX.

Relative mass of 39X = 39 (approx.)
Relative mass of yX = y (approx.)

In 100 atoms of X, there are 90 39X atoms and yX atoms.
Relative atomic mass of X = (39 x 90 + y x 10)/100
39.1 = (3510 + 10y)/100
Hence, y = 40
Mass number of isotope yX = 40
