use a.c. in electromegnets

state the advantages/disavantages for using 50Hz a.c. in a electromegnet which is use to pick up iron objects like steel ruler.

Advantage: the iron objects will NOT be permanently magnetized by the changing magnetic field of the electromagnet.Disadvantage: Becuae of the 50 Hz current which casues a time varying magnetic field, hysterisis loss in the core of the electromagnet is greater than that in d.c. electromagnet.
