sweetsam, here's my method from your other problem.... remember to watch out for signs... if its -4 then that's a "negative 4"

4 * -4 = 16
15 = 16 + -1

4x² + 16x - 1x - 4 = 0
4x(x+4) - (x+4) = 0

(4x - 1)(x + 4) = 0
x = 0.25, -4

4x^2+15x-4

Remember the x diamond factorization in middle school?

We know 4x + or minus something1 times x + or - something2 equals product of last term -4. Something1*something2 = -4 (4x-1)(x+4) works.

Or you can do factor out like this:
4x^2+16x-x-4
4x(x+4)-1(x+4)
(4x-1)(x+4)

4x^2+16x-x-4
4x(x+4)-1(x+4)
(x+4)(4x-1)

(4x - 1)(x + 4)

4x^2 + 15x - 4
= (4x - 1)(x + 4)
