Concussion Question? Please help!?

I passed out today around 5:30pm. (its now, 10:17pm) I was walking up the stiars to my 3rd floor apartment and know i made it to the top of one flight of stairs and passed out, I came to at the bottom of the staircase (wooden and metal staircase, OUCH!) Anyway, I have 3 big knots on my head (underneath my hair) and one knot on my forehead (among many other scratches and bruises!!) Anytime I lean foward/down or move my head suddenly I get very dizzy like I'm going to pass out again. I have not gone to the hospital yet. I have passed out before and have ALL the test and they have no reason why I pass out, but now I'm a little concerned about all the bumps on my head. I know you shouldn't sleep after you hit your head in case you have a concussion. but how long should you wait before sleeping??

I know I know. Most of you are going to say I need to go to the hospital and get checked. and Now I'm really considering it.

But please, for now, help me out with some info for concussions!

Yep, I'd have to agree that an ER visit is warranted. Not only for passing out for no explained reason but the fall down the stairs is scary. You could have a concussion or a cracked skull! I really think it is best to get a CT scan done of your head to make sure 1. there is no swelling of the brain (very dangerous!), 2. no skull fractures, 3. no brain bleeding, 4. any explanation to your passing out. I know doctors have looked in the past but please get checked out again.

Have you seen a cardiologist? You could have what is called a PFO (patent foramen ovale) commonly known as a hole in the heart, or a leaking valve or something else that is taking the oxygen from your brain. Could you be pregnant? That would be an aggravating factor.

See if you can get a friend or family member to drive you to the ER. It's better to be safe than sorry. I've seen too many situations like this turn out badly (I work in Organ & Tissue Donation). I wish you the very best and hope you get well soon!!

Yes, you should go to the hospital, especially if you do not have anyone to watch and check on you through the night- you can sleep if you have someone to keep an eye on you- like wake you and check to make sure you're eyes are not dialating. Otherwise, you have a roung noght ahead.

Passing out for no apparent reason is not normal. Just because the doctors can't figure out what was wrong with you doesn't mean that you are ok. You may have one of those rare illnesses that most doctors are not familiar with. You have to press on to find out the cause of your fainting spell. Hopefully someone will come up with a "mystery diagnosis". If you have a concussion, you definitely will have to visit the hospital ER.

When dealing with concussions, it's a serious head injury and someone needs to be at your side, to ensure you are ok, if you passed out on the staircase, it's not very safe! You could very well make your head injury worse. You need to be lying down at someone's place, with a friend nearby to wake you up every 1 hour to see how you respond back to him/ her.

I really hope you can follow this, it's something like a 24 hour watch, to see how you respond, if you respond differently in communication, then you need to be see at the Emergency Room immediately for further medical treatment.

Good luck my friend, and wish you well in good health.
