dilute potassium permanganate solution is used to determine the concentration of H2O2 by titration.
why was distilled water, instead of tap water, is used in the dilution of the potassium permanganate solution??

This is because distilled water is nearly pure water, and there is almost no impurity in distilled water.

In tap water, there are a certain amount of impurities, and these impurities may react with the potassium permanganate reaction. For example, the chloride ions in tap water may react with acidified potassium permanganate solution.
2MnO4-(aq) + 16H+(aq) + 10Cl-(aq) → 2Mn2+(aq) + 8H2O(l) + 5Cl2(aq)

Moreover, when the potassium permanganate solution is mixing with the hydrogen peroxide solution, the impurities in the tap water may react with the hydrogen peroxide solution, or may act as the catalyst of decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide.
