y (y + 5) = 0
y = 0 , y = - 5

y^2 + 5y = 0

first, factor:

y(y+5)=0

now:

y=0
and
y+5=0

so, y=0 and -5

This is a quadratic equation.

Y^2+5Y=0

=> Y(Y+5)=0
=> Y=0 or Y+5=0
=> Y=0 or Y=-5

y^2+5y=0
(y)(y+5)=0 (factor out a y)
y=0, -5 ( this equation equals zero when y is 0 and -5)

Factorise it by finding the common factor.
y(y+5)=0
To amake the equation equal to 0, the brackets must equal 0. So y=-5 and y=0.

y^2 + 5y = 0

Notice that y is a common factor there, so you can factorise the y's...

y(y+5) = 0

Now you need to consider the y and (y+5) as parts and make them equal to 0 and find y.
First bit's easy...

y=0

y+5=0
y = -5

This is equivalent to :
y*(y+5)=0

So either y=0 or y+5=0 and y=-5

y^2 + 5y =0 -> simplify
y(y+5) = 0 -> one of the two terms has to be zero so

y=0 or

y+5=0 -> subtract 5 from both sides
y=-5

Simple. You need to factor. y(y+5)=0

There are two answers:
y= -5
y= 0

y = 0 and -5

y = 0 or -5
