hi!

simplify a fraction?

for example, we have 4/28

first, find the gcf or the greatest common factor of the numerator and the denominator

find a factor of 4 that is also a factor of 28...
we'll have this list...
1 is a factor of 4 and 28
2 is a factor of 4 and 28
4 is a factor of 4 and 28

so, since 4 is their greatest common factor, 4 is the gcf...

then, divide 4 / 28 by 4 / 4

divide the numerator by 4...
so, 4 / 4 = 1
therefore, the numerator is 1

divide the denominator by 4 also...
so, 28 / 4 = 7
therefore, the denominator is 7

and therefore, the simplified fraction is
1 / 7

i hope this helps

Divide top and bottom by the same number:-
Examples
84/160 = 42/80 = 21/40
16/48 = 4/12 = 1/3
420/840 = 42/84 = 21/42 = 1/2
8/48 = 4/24 = 2/12 = 1/6

think of a number that can divide both numerator and denominator example 8/12 8 and 12 can be divided by 2. so
8 / 2 = 4
12 / 2 = 6
mean 4/6 it can stil be divided by two again
4 / 2 = 2
6 / 2 = 3
mean 2/3 if one of the numerator or denominator is an odd number (number cannot be exactly divided by a number not a decimal) it is in the simplified form thank you

Well, in its simplest form, a fraction's numerator (top half) and denominator (bottom half) cannot be divided by the same integer (whole number).

6/8 for example can be simplified to 3/4 because you can divide both 6 and 8 by 2. Likewise 4/2 can be simplified to 2 by dividing both the top and bottom by 2.

Fractions like 1/4 or 5/7 cannot be further simplified because no integer can be divided into both.

it's easy... if for example 2/4 since both is divisible by 2 so divide 2/4 divded by 2 so 1/4.

Find a common factor between the numerator and denominator. If either number is a Prime number, then you win as it's no longer able to be simplified.

For example, 25/100 can be divided by 5... but it can also be divided by 25. Simplification brings the number to 1/4... 4 is not a prime number, but 1 is. So you're done.

e.g 1)
12/36
= 6/18
= 3/9
= 1/3

e.g. 2)
8/14
= 4/7

e.g. 3)
56/14 (= 56 ÷ 14)
= 4

e.g. 4)
35/14
= 5/2
= 2 1/2

e.g. 5)
2.5/5.5
= 25/55
= 5/11

e.g. 6)
12/4/6
= 12/(4 x 6)
= 12/24
= 6/12
= 3/6
= 1/2

Mr. Roboto,

Simplyifying a fraction can become very easy once you get the hang of it. The larger the numbers, though, the harder they get. Lets take a look at a few problems and see if you get it...

1.) First of all, fractions may be written with ( / ) or with a fraction bar ( ----- ). They mean the same thing but just a different way of writing them. Numerator is the top number in the fraction, and denominator is the bottom number.

2.) If we have the fraction 5/10 , it can be reduced. We know this because 5 is a factor of 10. To simplify the fraction, divide both the numerator and the denomenator by 5.

5 1
---- = -----
10 2

Again, we divided both 5 and 10 by 5 because they are both dividisble by 5, and got 1/2 as the answer.

3.) Lets look at some lightly larger numbers... 80/96. The first thing you should do with numbers like these are look for a common factor. 8 can be divided evenly into each of these, so divide each by 8.

80 10
----- = ----
96 12

WAIT: These can still be reduced, so divide again.

10 5
---- = -----
12 6

Hope this helps!

Suppose we hav a fraction :10/32
let's solve. at first find the factors of the numerator & denominator
So we can write 10/32 like this (2.5)/(2.2.2.2.2)
Now put out(!) the common factors :5/16
I think it is the easier solution.
