The square root of a number is the number which, when squared (multiplied by itself), is that number.

For example, 6 x 6 = 36. So, the square root of 36 is 6.

The square root is the number that times itself equals whatever. Like the square root of 64 is 8

Okay, this is quite hard for me to explain but I'll give an example.

So 3 x 3 = 9, right?

Which means the square root of 9 is 3 because if you take 3 and multiply it with its number again (3x3), you get 9!

So here's another

The square root of 81 is 9 because when you take 9 and multiply it by 9 again, you get 81!

Hope I helped. :)

Think of a block of wood.
It can be 4 inch by 2 inch (or 2 by 4) for a total of 8 square inches...

Now think of a SQUARE piece of wood. The sides are all the same length.

3 inch by 3 inch = 9 square inches. Draw a 3x3 grid and you get 9 little quares.

When you "square" a number you go from the small number (3) to the big one (9). When you "square root" you go backwards, from the big number to the little one.
參考: 4x4= 16, square root of 16 = 4 5x5 = 25, square root of 25 = 5 Test: what is the quare root of 36? 49? 64? 81?

If you gave any number like 4.
now break this number in two same multiple number like 2X2
now 2 is the square root of 4.

other examples:
1 is square root of 1.
2 is square root of 4.
3 is square root of 9.
4 is square root of 16.
5 is square root of 25......

A square root of a number x is a number r such that r² = x, or in words, a number r whose square (the result of multiplying the number by itself) is x.

The square root symbol is √

An example:

The square root of 9 is 3, because 3 times 3 equals 9.

√9 = 3 because 3X3 = 9.

A square root is the inverse function of a square.

E.g. 2 sqaured = 4
So to work backwards, square root of 4 is 2.

E.g. 5 squared = 25
So to work backwards, square root of 25 is 5.

Hope this helps

it means the number that was multiplied by itself to get the number you're trying to get the square root of.

Square Root
In mathematics, a square root of a number x is a number r such that r2 = x, or in words, a number r whose square (the result of multiplying the number by itself) is x. Every non-negative real number x has a unique non-negative square root, called the principal square root and denoted with a radical symbol as √x . For example, the principal square root of 9 is 3, denoted √9 = 3 , because 3^2 = 3 x 3 = 9 . The other square root of 9 is −3.
