1. EDWARD divides 60marbls iinto 2 groups. If 7 times the number of marbles in the smaller group is equal to 3 times that in the larger group,find the no. of marbles in the small group.
Let the no. of marbles in the small group be x ,
then the no. of marbles in the large group be (60-x)
7x=3(60-x)
7x=180-3x
10x=180
x=18
Therefore, the no. of marbles in the small group is 18

2.There are 18 true or false questions in a maths test .2marks will be given for each correct answerand 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. If mimi answer all he questions and gets 24 marks .How many correct answers has she got?
Let the correct answers has she got be x ,
then the wrong answers has she got be (18-x)
2x+(18-x)(-1)=24
2x-18+x=24
3x=42
x=14
Therefore, the correct answers has she got is 14
