Average A-Level Scores of Admittees

Average Score = Average of 2AL (or 1 AL + 2AS other than UE/CLC) plus UE & CLC

Lingnan University considers that the formula above presents a fair calculation and indication of how applicants are evaluated for admission. The "Lingnan formula" reflects the general University admission requirement of two Advanced Level (AL) subjects or one AL + two Advanced Supplementary (AS) Level subjects, plus the AS Level subjects of "Use of English (UE)" and "Chinese Language & Culture (CLC)". UE and CLC each carries half the weight of an AL subject. The average score of these 3 AL-equivalent subjects should therefore be the best indicator to gauge students’ performance in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE).

Note on Admission Criteria:

Applicants for admission should note that the evaluation of students is NOT only based on academic performance, but also on extra-curricular activities, interviews, tests and other factors which reflect the all-round performance of applicants. The information contained in this page is for reference only and should not be used to predict the chance of admission to any programme in subsequent years.

Notes:

1.

Scores: Grade A=5, Grade E=1

2.

Average Score = [2AL(or 1AL+2AS/2) +UE/2 +CLC/2] / 3

3.

The university entrance requirement is passes in 2AL (or 1AL+2AS) subjects plus UE and CLC. Some programmes require Grade D or above in UE and/or CLC.

4.

The figures given are for general reference only. Interviews may be conducted, in particular in arts programmes, for shortlisted candidates.

5.

In general, programmes have no preference on the background of candidates in arts, business or science subjects in their secondary education.

6.

Repeated examination sittings are allowed and without discount of grade scores.

'A' Level Subjects

A majority of HKALE candidates take two AL subjects, but many students take one more subject to safeguard the chance of satisfying the admission requirement. Very few students take only one AL subject. The scores below represent admittees' performance on the average of their achievement in AL subjects.

'AS' Level Subjects

A majority of HKALE candidates only take the two AS level subjects of UE and CLC, but there are also many students who take one more AS subject. The scores below represent admittees' performance on the average of their achievement in AS subjects.
