Is it (51/3) [fifty one over three] or is it 5 1/3 [five and one third]?

If it's 51/3:

Step 1: Since 51 is divisible by 3, we divide it.

51/3 + 32 ==> 51 ÷ 3 = 17

17 + 32

Step 2: Simplify.

17 + 32

49 (<==ANSWER!)

If it's 5 1/3:

Step 1: Convert the mixed number into an improper fraction. Multiply the denominator by the whole number and then add the numerator. The denominator stays the same.

5 1/3 + 32 ==> (3 • 5) + 1 ==> 16 ==> 16/3

16/3 + 32

Step 2: Convert the 32 into an improper fraction as well. Multiply the 32 by the denominator of the other fraction (3) and keep the common denominator.

16/3 + 32 ==> 32 • 3 = 96 ==> 96/3

16/3 + 96/3

Step 3: Simplify

16/3 + 96/3

112/3 (<==ANSWER)
