May I ask the meaning or function of the phrase "from that perch" in the
following statement? Thanks.

"I have been tracking the progress of our scientific understanding of the
realm of the irrational. From that perch I have been struck by two opposing
trends, one portraying a graowing calamity in our shared emotional life, the
other offering some hopeful remedies."

✔ 最佳答案
the phrase "from that perch" means "從那個高位處"

整段的意思是:

我已經走過一個我們科學上認識的和不合理範圍的進展。從那個高位處我已經被二個對立的趨勢所打擊,一個把增長中的災難描繪成我們情感生活的一部分,另一個則提供一些有希望的補救方法。
