The founding of the Central School was attributable to the efforts of theReverend Dr James Legge (1815-1897). A missionary and sinologist famous for his translation and annotation of the Chinese Classics, Dr Legge had served as the Principal of the Anglo-Chinese College in Malacca that was run by the London Missionary Society before his arrival in Hong Kong.
