Change in length = 44 mm
% change = (44/132) x 100 %
% change = 33.33333% = 33⅓ % (decrease)

(132-88)/132 * 100 = 33.33%

132-88=44

44/132=.33 x100 = 33.3%

(new - original)/original x 100% = percentage of difference

(88 - 132)/132 x 100%
= -44/132 x 100%
= -1/3 x 100%
= -100/3 %
= -33 1/3 %

+y% = increased
-y% = decreasing

Howdy & I sure hope all is well. :) As for your question:

A percentage is a ratio of two things (A/B, that is, A divided by B) multiplied by 100.

This is not to be confused with taking a percentage off of something, like taking 20% off something. In that case, it would be 20 times something, DIVIDED by 100.

So for your question, whatever this thing was, it was 132 mm, then got reduced by 88mm. That means it was reduced by:

(88 mm/132 mm)*100

Since both 88 & 132 are divisible by 44, the ratio can be simplified into:

(2/3)*100

That works out to (approximately): 66.666%

(Note: Since it was 88 mm DIVIDED by 132 mm, the mm also cancel out, just as the 44 in 88 & 132!)

I sure hope that was as clear & as helpful as you needed it to be. :) Good luck, take care & have a great day. :)

Cheers! :)
