cobalt-60 is a radioactive isotope of cobalt that is formed in some types of nuclear reactors. it slowly converts into nickel-60,according to the following nuclear reaction:60CO--60NI.when a 1.855x10^-4g sample of 60Co is converted to 60NI,8.432x10^5J of energy are produced. given that the molar mass of 60Co is 59.933819g/mol,calculate the molar mass of 60NI.

First of all, we have to find out the mass defect by the equation E = mc2.
Then,
8.432 × 105 = m × (3 × 108)2
m = 9.369 × 10-12 kg = 9.369 × 10-9 g
Also no. of moles of 60Co used = 1.8544 × 10-4/59.933819 = 3.094 × 10-6 moles
Therefore, when 1 mole of 60Co is converted to 1 mole of 60Ni, total mass defect is:
9.369 × 10-9/3.094 × 10-6 = 0.003028 g
Finally, mass of 1 mole of 60Ni is:
59.933819 - 0.003028 = 59.930791 g
