if the problem is 8+80+800........(8x10^16)

how would you find the sum

Order of operations: Do the power first, then multiplication:
There are 16 zeros:

8 * 10^16 = 8 * 10,000,000,000,000,000

= 80,000,000,000,000,000

Now 8 + 80 = 88
88 + 800 = 888
etc.

So the answer is 88,888,888,888,888,888

The rule of Mathametic is
BEDMAS =
Bracket,Exponentiation,Division,Multiplication,Addition,Subtraction

First we use Exponentiation i.e
10^16 =10000000000000000

and then Multipliaction
Multiply by 8 =80000000000000000

since the question u've primarily asked is what (8x10^16)is...
let this b equal to x.
so take the logarithm of the 2...
log x =log (8x10^16)
=log 8+ 16log10
(log 10=1; And the value of log 8 from the log table is 0.9031)
so,
log x= 0.9031+16
=16.9031
and, x= antilog 16.9031
=80000000000000000...so thts ur value


And as to solving the summation, u'd hav 2 use blue-j, a platform for java.

We can write it as
8(1 +10 + 100 +...+10^16)
=8*10^16(10^-16 + 10^-15 +...+10^-1 +1)
=8*10^16(1.1111111111111111)
I think now you can solve it.
