Need help with Shakespheare?

I'm reading Shakesphear's Julies Caesar play, and I'm not sure what this line means: he hath brought many captives home to rome, whose ransoms did the general coffers fill. Does it mean that the ransoms the captives earned to free themselves went to the treasury or reserve of Rome's government?

important prisoners were ransomed, that is, their people paid to get them back. that money went into the imperial treasury.
