a question in the eng sentence

I found this sentence from yahoo dictionary :

"I'll be here first thing in the morning, and meantime she'll get some rest."

我不明白 first thing 在這句的意義...請各位指教

謝謝~但跟後面的 get some rest 有什麼關係 ???

" I'll be here first thing in the morning" , means that "
我一早就來這裡"

我一早就來這裡,其間她可休息一會兒。

"first thing" is mean " 第一件事" , so is like " 我一早第一件事就來這裡"
