-measures the absorbance of particular wavelengths of light by a specific solution
-used to determine the concentration of a known solute in a given solution
-the concentration of a solute is proportional to the absorbance.

Photometer

-measure emission of photon to deermine illuminance
-detect light intensity, absorption and fluoresence

Fluorometer

-measure parameters of fluorescence
-identify the presence and the amount of specific molecules in a medium.
