a) Total no. of words / Total time taken = Average writing speed Total no. of words / 50 = 16
Total no. of words = 800
1/4 of the note has: 800 / 4 = 200 words
Hence the time required for the 1st 1/4,
200 / 30
= 6min and 40s
b) The remaining time = 50 min - 6 min 40s = 43 min 20s
Speed = ( 800 - 200 ) / 43 min 20s
= 13.8 words / min ( 3 s.f. )
