Yes. as seen in some newspapers that a package of cigaratte will cost nearly $40 after the new tax being levied.
The government has to discourage peoples from smoking as this will lead to a very very big increase in medical expenses e.g. cancer and other related sicknesses in the coming future. This applied not only to the smokers himself/herself but have a big impact to non-smokers on getting the 2nd hand smoking harms.This will make a big impact to the government financial resources on medical expenses. So, prevention is better than cure.
Just think of the issue recently for fishes, vegetables you are eating contains a cancer impact substance ( 致癌物貭 ), the government immediately abandoned the selling of it and collect all fishes, vegetables in the market. Think of how scare the Hong Kong citizens at that time. They urged and fully supported the government to act on it immediately. Think of it related to cigarattes in the same impact.

Everybody knows this. The question is how the Financial Secretary to face the opposition from sellers and smokers. The answer, as I said, financial burden on medical expense and the oppostion from non-smokers.
