The book which I would like to talk about is the ‘Da Vinci Code’ by Dan Brown. The story starts off at the Louvre museum at Paris where Jacques Sauniere, the curator of the museum, is murdered. Alongside his body, the police found a set of complicated codes and symbols. Harvard Professor Robert Langdon and French cryptologist Sophie Neveu are asked to solve the codes. As they begin to sort the codes, they find out that the codes relate to the works of Leonardo Da Vinci including including the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. As Robert and Sophie work through the codes, they are impeded by Opus Dei, an organization within the Roman Catholic Church which wants to prevent them from breaking the codes and revealing the secrets which the codes hold but Robert and Sophie were determined to crack the codes and eventually, they succeeded and they found out that the codes lead onto a major secret in Christianity which claims that in fact Jesus was married. The book also talks about the location and the secrets of the Holy Grail.
However, because this book contradicts the Holy Bible and it challenges Christianity, it upset many members of Christianity when the book was released and the book had been heavily criticized by the church.
Despite the controversy the book has generated, the Da Vinci Code is a very popular book with 60.5 million copies sold worldwide in 44 languages. It is an excellent book because the plot is very carefully crafted and Dan Brown managed to keep a very nervous and intense feel throughout the book.
