Hydrazine is a toxic substance that can form when household ammonia is mixed with a bleach such as Clorox. Its formula is N2H4, and it is a weak base. Write a chemical equation showing its reaction with water. Use minimal integer numbers to balance the reaction. Include physical states in your answer, e.g., N2H4(aq).

Hydrazine has basic properties comparable to ammonia but 15 times weaker.

N2H4(aq) + H2O(l) → [N2H5]+(aq) + OH-(aq)

It can be diprotonated only with difficulty:

[N2H5]+(aq) + H2O(l) → [N2H6]2+(aq) + OH-(aq)
