What are the health effects of global warming? Research data shows that global warming may affect human health in a surprising number of ways: speeding the spread of infectious diseases such as malaria and dengue fever; creating conditions that lead to potentially fatal malnutrition and diarrhea; and increasing the likelihood of heat waves and floods.

1)Environmental aspects:

a) Hong Kong is getting warmer

b) An increase in rainfall in Hong Kong
Reason:The higher temperature in urban areas enhances convective activities and the increase in concentration of suspended particulates from urban activities also favours the formation and development of rain-bearing clouds.

c) A rise in sea level (PS. this affects quite a lot as HK lies on coastline...so perhaps there's no more HK in future ="=)
Reason: Global warming leads to the melting of iceburgs in the two Poles. This leads to a great increase of sea level.
How serious??:An analysis of the records shows that the mean sea level in the Victoria Harbour has risen 0.13 m from 1954 to 2007, at an average rate of 2.4 mm per year.
A major impact of the mean sea-level rise in Hong Kong is an increase in sea flooding from storm surges caused by tropical cyclones. For a rise of 0.18 m or 0.59 m in the mean sea level and assuming no change in storm characteristics, the extreme sea-levels in the Victoria Harbour for various return periods would become higher.

d) Lead to an increase of pests (@$%^@#^!&#)
impact:a SERIOUS nuisance to humans and other mammals
Reason:Heavy rains speed up water flow in streams and rivers and increase oxygen in water," where blackflies can thrive.

2)Economic aspects:

a) People uses more money for energy consumption
Reason: for air conditioning....(this is the root of all sins....= =)
How serious?: Summing up, for a 1ºC temperature rise, the total energy cost of Hong Kong will probably increase by HK$1.66 billion per year. (**Note that this is only an estimation)

3)Social aspects:

a) Poorer health
Reason: a rise in temperature leads to due to greater epidemic potential of diseases like Dengue Fever and Malaria
Impact: i)More money has to be spent on providing medical services. ii)lower productivity due to poor health conditions of citizens.
