8x + 1 = 7x
7x - 8x = 1
-x = 1
x = 1/-1
x = -1

8x + 1 = 7x

Subtract 8x on both sides
1 = -x

x = -1

8x+1= 7x
-7x -7x
group like terms i.e. subtract 7x and -1 from both sides
8x-7x+1=0
x+1=0
-1 -1
x = -1

x=-1

First Subtract both sides by 8x
8x-8x+1=7x-8x
Substitute
1=-1x
Divide both sides by -1
1/-1=1x/-1
Solve
-1=x or x=-1

Check
8(-1)+1=7(-1)
-8+1=-7
-7=-7
Since both sides are equal. The answer x=-1 is correct

Hey there!

Write the problem.
8x+1=7x

Subtract 8x on both sides of the equation.
1=-x

Divide -1 on both sides of the equation.
-1=x

Switch the terms around.
x=-1

So the answer is x=-1.

Check the solutions.

8(-1)+1=7(-1) -->
-8+1=-7 -->
-7=-7, true

So the solutions check.

Hope it helps!
