How do you do this? m^12 divided by m^3?
I don't understand how to do a number to a power- m to the 12th divided by m to the 3rd.
Doesn't make sense to me! Any help is appreciated ! THANK YOU!!!!!

m^12
------ = m^9
m^3
(m^12) / (m^3) = m^9
you can understand it in this way
m^12 means m is multiplied by itself twelve times.
m^12 = m x m x m x m x m x m x m x m x m x m x m x m.
m^3 = m x m x m.
so
m^12/m^3 =
(m x m x m x m x m x m x m x m x m x m x m x m) / (m x m x m)
= m x m x m x m x m x m x m x m x m
= m^9.
from ur law of indices that staes that M^a divided by M^b = M^(a-b).
u can apply this to ur question, u will end up with
M^12 divided by M^3 = M^(12-3)
your answer is therfore M^9.
good luck kiddo
The rule for dividing like variables with exponents is to subtract the exponents. So m^12/m^3 = m^9 because 12 - 3 is 9. It's that easy. When you multiply like variables with exponents, you add the exponents.
m^12 ÷ m^3
= m^(12 - 3)
= m^9
m^12 / m^3
just subtract the exponents
m^9
to help maybe write out all the 12 m's on top and all the 3 on the bottom and see which one's cancel out, it would be 3 and you would be left with 9 on the top making the answer m^9
When you're dividing, all you have to do is subtract the exponents.
12 - 3 = 9,
so it's m^9.
