cubic zircona vs diamond?

what is a cubic zirconia? I lost the huge diamond in my mother's late ring and i am replacing it with a cubic zirconia...what exactly is the difference? Is it just a cheaper diamond?

I can't afford the real diamond and it's not that big a deal cause its not the diamond that is sentimental, it's the whole ring plus it still have 6 littlte diamonds all around it

I think it`s made to look like a diamond but cost less. According to Wikipedia, Only someone with a trained eye for jewerly can tell them apart because it is so close to a real diamond.

A cubic Zirconia is a fake diamond. You may or may not notice the difference...it just depends on your knowledge about fine jewelry. I personally can't tell the difference unless I have both in my hand.

Synthetic Cubic Zirconia is a synthetic gem, not natural like diamonds, and has a total different chemical structure and composition. It simply is a different gem, mainly used to simulate diamond. It's value is not comparable to diamond at all. It has more fire than diamonds being in a round brilliant cut, so if your diamond is round, it can be easily seen to be a CZ. In some other cuts like emerald cut it is harder to detect at sight.
Most CZ will be in very good color (colorless, like D diamonds) and have no inclusions (IF), so the difference with the diamonds around could become too striking. Check before you buy.
If the diamond was big then there was a financial value too ...
