Answer the following question with necessary steps.

1. Shan Shan starts off from city A and cycles at a speed of 100m/min towards city B. At the same time, Tze Ming and Siu Ying start off from city B and cycle towards city A at 80m/min and 75m/min respectively. If Shan Shan meets Siu Ying 6 minutes after she has met Tze Ming, find the distance (in km) between the cities A and B.

Let the time when Shan Shan meets Tze Ming is t
So the distance (in km) between the cities A and B
=100t+80t
We want to find t
Since when t+6
Shan Shan meets Siu Ying
the distance (in km) between the cities A and B is also equal to
100(t+6)+75(t+6)
So
100t+80t=100(t+6)+75(t+6)
80t=600+75t+450
5t=1050
t=210
the distance (in km) between the cities A and B
=100*210+80*210
=21000+16800
=37800 m
=37.8 km
