No he can not pay you under minimum wage. You need to go to the labor board ASAP. They will make him pay you in full back pay plus penalties, and he can not fire you for doing it! Good luck.

This is the website to file your claim. I am a Human Resources Manager for 19+ years - trust me when I tell you, he CAN NOT fire you for filing a claim. Also, you are entitled to a penalty for not receiving the full amount since 1/1/08.
first of all let me answer your question with a question...which is are you in michigan? the reason i ask this is because i used to live there and the economy sucks cost of living nearly equals outgoing income. when i was there minimum wage was 6.25 then a raise happened and it went up to 7.00 then again to 8.00 this year so legally once the minimum wage has legally been established, yes! they have to pay you at least minimum wage or else they could get fined or even sued and shut down. you may need to research to see when the exact date it was placed into affect and add up all your back pay have it ready and confront them. if they wont listen, never be afraid to sue. its your money why let them have it? they have enough. get that money!
That depends on what state you are in and what your job is. For example...waitresses, bar tenders, strippers, etc...do mot make "minimum wage" b/c their tips more than make their pay equal to (usually way more than) minimum wage.
the only way it would be legal in some states and provinces if you are a student , high school , or under the age of sixteen , with less than 400 hours as a employee on your life work record . he owes you big time otherwise . contact state/province employment standards branch
