11 - 5 = 3x + 4 (3 - 2x)?

2008-02-01 7:56 am
wow, this is hard i cant figure out how to do it. I do online school so i don't have a teacher there explaining it =(

11 - 5 = 3x + 4 (3 - 2x)

and then they simplified and got this:

6 - 3x + 12 - 8x

i dont understand how they got the 12 and the 8. does anyone know? im just having a lot of trouble with this properties of equality problems.

and then what do you do next?

and then after they wrote:

6 - 3x + 12 - 8x

they wrote:

6 = 3x + 12 - 8x

and then:

6 = 12 - 5x

gosh! it's so confusing becuz they dont explain how they got this. Im so lost! please help if you can!

6 = 3x + 12 - 8x
8x - 3x = 12 - 6
5x = 6
x = 6 / 5

Note
4(3 - 2x) means that contents of brackets have to be multiplied by 4 , the number outside the brackets.
ie 4(3 - 2x) = 12 - 8x

This uses basic techniques. You need to master them for just about everything you will be studying over the next few years. Essentially you expand any parenthetical expressions, then collect similar terms until the equation reduces to a basic form. Then solve. 5(x - 3) + 4 = 2x + 11 - 3x 5x -15 + 4 = 2x + 11 - 3x Now combine terms ... 5x - 11 = -x + 11 Now solve by collecting x's on the left and constants on the right side. Use transposition (if you know that) or just add and subtract terms from both side: 5x + x - 11 + 11 = -x + x + 11 + 11 (watch your signs) 6x = 22, so x = 22/6 = 11/3

11 - 5 = 3x + 4(3 - 2x)
6 = 3x + 4*3 - 4*2x
6 = 3x + 12 - 8x
6 = 3x - 8x + 12
6 = -5x + 12
6 - 12 = -5x
-6 = -5x
-5x = -6
x = -6/-5
x = 1 1/5

11 - 5 = 3x + 4 (3 - 2x)?
from this you need to maintain the equality sign and simplify the 4 (3 - 2x) term with inner multiplication as {a(b-c)}={ab-ac}
it is a one rule of mathematics.
just do it as below:
11-5=6
4(3-2x)=4*3-4*2x=12-8x
put it in equation as
6=3x+12-8x maintain equality sign. and if you want to take a term from left to right or right to left of equal sign then the number having sign will reverse.
so,
make the x term on one side and number term on one side as:
6-12=3x-8x
-6=-5x
6=5x
x=6/5..........................ans

11-5=3x+4(3-2x)
First simplify like terms 11-5=6 so
6=3x+4(3-2x)
Then use distributive property to remove () 4(3-2x)=12-8x so
6=3x+12-8x
Then combine like terms again 3x-8x =-5x so
6=-5x+12
Then start to isolate the variable 1st step move the twelve so
-12+6=-5x+12-12
-6=-5x
Then remove the 5 from the x by division
-6/-5=-5x/-5
6/5=x
1 1/5 =x

if it works like i think -

6 = 3x + 4 times the total of 3 - 2x
theyve totaled the brackets section by making it 12 & 8x
continiuing on from the last figure u have
6-12 =12-12 -5x
-6 = - 5x
cancel the negatives &
the end total is x = 1.2 on that calculation

when a number apears before a bracket you multiply it by the total of the actions inside the brackets

your question is :-
11 - 5 = 3x + 4 (3 - 2x)
solution:-
6 = 3x +12 -8x (multiply 4 with 3 and -2x)
6 =12 -5x (3x - 8x)
6 -12 = -5x
-6 = -5x
6/5 = x
hope it will help you to understand this.......

11 - 5 = 3x + 4(3 - 2x)
6 = 3x +12 - 8x
6 - 3x = 12 - 8x (The = sign is wrongly marked as + and this step is not necessory)
From step 2 above 6 = 12 - 5x
So 5x = 6
x = 6/5 = 1.2

11-5=3x +4(3-2x)

When you have a number in front on a set of parenthesis you distribute that number (4) to each term within the parenthesis.

you would multiply 4(3) and 4(-2x) that would give you this for your next line in the equation.

11-5= 3x +12 -8x **** do you see how I distributed the 4 to each individual term. Then your next step is to combine like terms.
6= 12 - 5x >>>> this is the answer unless they want you to work it out and then it would look like this.

5x=12-6
5x=6
x=6/5

11 - 5 = 3x + 4 (3 - 2x) use distributive property by multiplying 4 to 3 and -2x
11 - 5 = 3x + 12 - 8x Then combine like terms (-8x and 3x)
11 - 5 = -3x + 12 Then combine other like terms and move 12 to the left so you can have x by itself
-6=-3x Then you divide both sides by -3 to get
2= x

Also, my steps are a little different, but you can move the terms around in any way you please, as long as you find the right answer.
