Bond used in SO2

My teacher said the bond that involves in S and O2 is form 6 material. Please explain to me which bond is used and how or why. Is it covalent bond? Does octet rule apply? Thanks a million!

Please please I would really like to know more. Shall I send you an email? Thank you so much

Indeed it requires some knowledge from Form 6.
For the structure please refer to the following site:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SO2
Sulphur is the central atom, forming 2 covalent bonds to each oxygen atom, with an extra lone pair on the S centre.
Maybe you can notice that the number of electrons around S is 10, which violate the octet rule you learn.
In fact, octet rule generally apply for those elements in the first 2 period. Starting from the 3rd period, elements can "expand their octet" and have more than 8 electrons. Well, the reason is again outside CE syllabus. If you would like to know more, please let me know.
