Please reconsider, all puppies are adorable but I would not want to risk a Pitbull with my child. I know you will hear from the people that say it is all about how you raise them but there is some truth to the fact that temperment is genetic. (how else could we have an Irish Temper or Scots frugality or English stiff upper lip hmmmm?) Just kidding but the fact is that all breeds of dogs can bite it is just when a Pitbull does bite it is with devastating results. I would be willing to bet that just as many Chihuahuas bite kids as Pitbulls do but nobody has ever died in a Chihuahua attack.
There are tons of dogs that are great with kids, Golden Retriever come to mind first. They would probably gnaw their own leg off before biting your child. Australian Shepards are also good family dogs. Or better yet rescue a mixed breed puppy from the pound. I've had mutts and I've had "purebreds" and hands down the mutts were the better dogs.
If you saw these pups for sale in a parking lot or something, I would NOT pay for them as they are most likely the result of poor breeding which is the last thing you want in any breed, but especially not in your larger breeds.
As for the pit bull breed, they are awesome family dogs. They are wonderful with children, loyal, always aiming to please. They can, like most bully breeds, be a bit strong willed and may not be the dog for your family, read up on them and study your family's lifestyle to determine which breed would be best.
A dog should never be an impulse buy. Good luck!
Pit bulls can be wonderful dogs however, they are not for everyone. They are a powerful breed so, make sure you know how to handle and train these dogs before you purchase one. I would not buy one with out a TON of research and speaking possibly with a dog trainer.
I have a pit bull mix and she is the sweetest dog you would ever meet. My wife has owned pure bred pit bulls who are very gentle. Their demeanor depends a great deal on how you raise them. But you need to know a lot about raising potentially dangerous dogs in the first place, so you can put an end to antisocial tendencies as soon as they show up. If you are not experienced with raising dogs, I would certainly not reccomend getting a pit bull.
You can probably find an adorable retriever somewhere :)
omg, pit bulls are fabulous dogs! don't be afraid of them. i've heard they are great with children and are protective as well. plus its a young pup, you can train the dog with the kids, make sure you do obedience classes, and i'm sure they have classes for kids to learn training skills as well. that will be so much fun. i would do it! good luck!
Pitties are known throughout history as being second-to-none when it comes to loving kids. Keep in mind though, they are a high-energy breed that needs tons of physical activity (I'm sure you're 9 yr old will be able to help in that department). They are super enthusiastic, and could knock over your toddler with that enthusiasm alone, so it's essential to be vigilant about watching your son's interactions with the pup. Raising a pit is work...they can be stubborn to train, but really do aim to please and will respond best to positive reinforcement when training.
Ultimately, do some research on the breed before deciding. Don't believe the media hype....they weren't called 'nanny dogs' for nothing!! And be sure to see the sire and dam of the pups...poor breeding can effect the temperment of any dog.

my mother has a pit bull mix that she got when it was a year old and had been trained by the previous owners. It is a sweet, loyal and protective dog, and is gentle with the little ones in our family.
I have to echo concerns about the puppies parents and the people selling the pups. Some communities have long standing ordinances against aggressive dogs (not just pit bulls), so doing your homework is paramount before getting ANY dog. Find out about the breeders, ask to see the parents, and observe what conditions the puppies are living in before you plunk down $400. And by all means do NOT buy a puppy off the internet!
I can't tell anyone what to do as far as dogs go. I have three dogs. But more importantly.......
I have two children. They are both grown with kids of their own now.... But if there was even the slightest hint that either of my children could have gotten injured when they were living at home, it would be a no-brainer. I wouldn't risk my children for the pleasure of owning a dog on any day of the week. I love my kids. I love dogs too, but for me, that's an easy choice.

it fairly is not a be attentive to certainty that pit bulls have a greater suitable temperment then golden retrievers. APBT have a properly time-honored agression twords different dogs, in accordance to the UKC "it regularly surprises people to overview that this fairly muscular dogs with the astonishing, beneficial presence is so easygoing. A properly bred APBT is a solid natured dependable spouse. His innovations-set in the direction of different dogs, even although, is yet another tale, together with his ancestry dictating a sturdy-willed, no nonsense form of dogs who would not take kindly to different assertive dogs" i like pit bulls and own a am staf terrier yet merely evaluating temperments, a golden retrievers is easily rivaled by making use of almost no different dogs. Like I suggested, i like pit bulls and think of a properly raised and properly bred APBT (American Pit Bull Terrier) would be completely effective in a enjoyed ones with little ones. No youthful toddler ought to ever be left on my own with any dogs although. It doesnt rely whether it truly is a golden retriever or a APBT. Torbaynewfs suggested it completely. The so called "pit bull" followers are easily hurting the breed. by making use of asserting there is not any difference between a pit bull and a golden retriever is probably going certainly one of the justifications we've maximum of probelms. First time dogs vendors right here this and think of, "properly if so, i'm able to get that pit bull from the pound". whilst a golden retriever may be a much greater suitable dogs for a inexperianced first time dogs proprietor.
I would be greatly concerned over the temperment of the breed. How are the temperments of the breeding pair. How were the dogs raised. Any breed concerns me when people sit out on a corner and sell puppies out of their cars and vans. What guarantee do you think they will give you on their health. You will never see these people again after the sale. Contact the pitbull breed club for a good breeder. I love the pitbulls, but I would never get one unless it is with a great breeder who actually shows their dogs and knows exactly what they are doing.
