My cat is 15 years old and still healthy. I take him to the vet for his check up and shots every year. My vet said cats can live up to 21 years. Indoor cats tend to live a lot longer though. Your cat is only 7-8 years old....he has plenty more years left - if he is healthy. Make sure to cut their nails regularly too. If their nails are left uncut, they can get arthritis in their paws and legs. Also, give them LOTS of attention. That can definitely help their life span.
I don't know what the statistics are for the rest of the world, but when I got my cat, I read that in the UK the average age for a cat who gets access to the outdoors is approx. 8 yrs. (They pick up more diseases, and run around in traffic more)
House cats who have had all of their vaccinations live on average for 15-18yrs.
Alot depends on your cat, the enviornment in which he/she lives, if it is an indoor only cat etc. I did have two cats that lived to be 21 and 23 years old. Good Luck with your kitty.
There are alot of factors to into consideration.
!) type of cat - indoor or outdoor or both
2) breed of cat
3) diet
4) care of cat -regular vet visits for shots, etc.
5) Your interaction with the cat- love you give the cat
My cat lived to 22 years, he was an in and out cat
My cat lived until she was 21. Fed on ordinary food, chopped chicken , fish and anything else we ate, she hated cat food and loved carnation cream. She was loved and played with all the time my daughter even used to dress her up and push her in the dolls pram. The cat just purred and loved us all. We even took her on holiday with us in the caravan and she loved to sit on the back shelf in the car when we went out. I know not all cats are the same but I think she lived a long time because she was a special part of the family.
Cats generally live anywhere from 10-25 years. It depends on the food and exercise habits. Give your cat the top notch food and play with it often to keep it in shape. Your cat should live for another 7-17 years. If you give him/her extra special care, expect your cat to live long!
My last cat was a Maine Coon and lived to be almost 18 years old. I had to have him put down after he had a stroke and was in a coma. With the proper vet care and nutrition your cat could live to be as old, too! My cat was healthy right until the very end.
