There is a spray you can use, called Wound-Gard. It is a bitter tasting spray and also contains an antiseptic- it is specifically designed for use on wounds. You should be able to get a bottle from your vet or pet/stock supplies.

I would not rely solely upon the spray- some animals are not put off by it at all, and some will become used to the taste and continue licking. If the cat is licking at the wound, you really should keep the e-collar on him/her for a little while longer.

I would recommend that you call your vets office and let them know that the cat licked the wound raw and see what they would recommend. Ask them if they carry a spray that will do the job without causing irritation the the raw area. I really would not want to recommend anything without your consulting your veterinarian. Good Luck.

You can break off the tip of one of the leaves of an artichoke...extremely bitter. Rub it around the wound...not in it. I also heard this is good for rubbing on areas you don't want your cat to scratch (ie: couch, carpet, railing, etc.).

No bitter apple please. You can get an elizabethan collar from your vet or online. I heard there are soft collar that is an alternative to the plastic elizabethan collar.

You should take your cat to the vet and have them fitted with an Elisabethan collar (those collars that look like lamp shades), they're specifically made to keep pets from licking at an injury. DO NOT put Bitter Apple on your cat's wound.

you should put baby power. my dog had a surgery last month and my vet told me to put baby power on the stitch and around it so i think it would be the same with wound..

They sell products at pet store. Agree with first answer, watch for stinging.

Bitter apple, but be careful around the open area, that stuff really stings!
