Tower Records, Raley's Supermarkets and Java City coffee started here. The Kings (NBA) play here. A couple of famous serial killers once plied their trade here. Arnold Schwarzenegger spends a good deal of time here and Ronald Reagan used to maintain a home here. The Oakland A's Triple-A affiliate plays here. We have more trees in our urban area than any other city in the U.S. An alliance of about a half-dozen automakers maintains a fuel-cell research and development center here. Tom Hanks went to college here. Our shabby system of levees controlling the two rivers that run through the city is going to make us the next national disaster story (a la Katrina).
Oh yeah, and we've given the world the following bands: The Cramps, Cake, Steel Breeze, Tesla, The Deftones, and my personal favorite: The Groovie Ghoulies.

Kittery/Kitttery Point, Maine.Known as the "Gateway to Maine", it's the oldest incorporated town in Maine. there's a ton of history...IDK about famous stuff though We have the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard that built the first submarines, I guess that pretty infamous. And the home of the USS Thresher incident: On 10 April 1963, after the completion of this work, Thresher began post-overhaul trials. Accompanied by the submarine rescue ship Skylark (ASR-20), she transited to an area some 220 miles east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and started deep-diving tests. As these proceeded, garbled communications were received by Skylark, indicating trouble aboard the submarine. It gradually became apparent that she had sunk, taking the lives of 129 officers, crewmen and civilian technicians. My Grandfather was scheduled to go on this voyage, due to unforeseen circumstances at the time of deployment (my grandmother being diagnosed with MS) He did not get aboard this sub.
