is it -27?

this is how i set it up

(2+(-5))^3

^3 = exponent.

the signs in the middle confuse me

Hi,

It's 343.

If x = 2 and y = 5 and z = 3 then (x+y)^z = (2+5)^3 = 7^3 = 343

If y was supposed to be -5, then
(x+y)^z = (2+ -5)^3 = (-3)^3 = -27

I hope that helps!! :-)

You have given values of:-
x = 2
y = 5
z = 3

ie not a -ve sign in sight!
There will therefore be no - ve sign in answer!

(2 + 5)³ = 7³ = 343

However, if figures are:
x = 2
y = - 5
z = 3

(2 - 5) ³ = ( - 3 ) ³ = - 27

The answer is 343.

Where did you get the -5 in your setup?

Note: if you meant to have y = -5, then your answer of -27 would be correct (2 + (-5) = -3. -3^3 = -27).

(x+y)^z = (2 + 5)^3 = 7^3 = 343

(2+(-5))^3 = (2 - 5)^3 = (- 3)^3 = - 27

((2)+(5))^(3)
= (2+5)^3
= (2+5)(2+5)(2+5)
= 7*7*7
= 49*7
= 343

343

no that would not be correct.

How you go about solving the problem is...

(2+5)^3

You would substitute 2 for x , 5 for y , and 3 for z

So it would be (7)^3 or (7 x 7 x 7)

So the correct answer would be 343

(x + y)^z
= (2 + 5)^3
= 7^3
= 343
2008-01-17 12:39 pm
(x + y)^z
= (2 + 5)^3
= 7^3
= 7*7*7
= 343
