但係點解covalent character會causes ionic cpd to have lower m.p. and b.p. than pure ionic onces.??仲有咩係polarizability? 係唔係anion對抗electron cloud distorted既能力??

Can be explained in two ways: (1)ionic cpd and (2) covalent cpd
(1)for ionic cpd, it is made of cation and anion. For cation, it loses an e- (s) . Once this happens, its proton number will be greater than that of e- ,making it to have a very high charge density. This signifies the cation has a very high polarizing power. At the time, the anion accepts an e-(s), making its size larger due to e-- e- repulsion. The anion is said to be polarizable (able to be polarized by cation). The outcome is the polarizable e-cloud due to anion is distorted because of the attractive force generated by the high polarizing power cation. The polarization of anion due to the presence of high charge density cation leads to covalent character which causes ionic cpd to have lower m.p. and b.p. than pure ionic onces.
(2)For covalent cpd, due to the different electronegativities between two elements within a covalent bond such as H-Cl, the highly electronegative Cl attracts e- from H-atom. The displacement of e- cloud causes separation of charge. H-atom becomes δ+ while Cl becomes δ-. This makes the establishment of dipole moment in H-Cl. The molecule is said to be polar. When a non-polar molecule with its outermost shell e- fully filled molecule such as neon is placed next to polar molecule - HCl, the polar molecule HCl polarizing the outermost shell e-of Ne. The polarization of Ne by the polar molecule HCl gives dipole - induced dipole attraction force. dipole [due to HCl] and induced dipole [due to the non-polar Neon polarized by HCl].
