Synopsis(簡介)

Directed by Roland Emmerich, this mega-budget, special-effects-laden epic revolves around the onset of an international series of crises brought on by the long-term results of the greenhouse effect. At the eye of the storm is paleoclimatologist (a professor dedicated to the study of weather patterns throughout the ages) Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid), who voluntarily takes on the preservation of the world in the dawn of the next ice age and all the disaster that comes along with it -- violent hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, tidal waves, massive floods, etc. Hall must also contact his son, Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal), who was in the middle of an academic competition in New York City when the chaos begun. In addition to facing the largest-scale onslaught of natural catastrophes in the history of humankind, Jack, in his journey north, must contend with the masses fleeing south in an attempt to resettle in a warmer climate. Many people died all over the world and the US Government is admitting that they are wrong to underestimated the environmental problem. Professor Hall finally met Sam and they both survived.

This movie takes a big-budget, special-effects-filled look at what the world would look like if the greenhouse effect and global warming continued at such levels that they resulted in worldwide catastrophe and disaster, including multiple hurricanes, tornadoes, tidal waves, floods and the beginning of the next Ice Age. At the center of the story is a paleoclimatologist (a scientist who studies the ways weather patterns changed in the past), Professor Jack Hall (Quaid), who tries to save the world from the effects of global warming while also trying to get to his son, Sam (Gyllenhaal), who was in New York City as part of a scholastic competition, when the city was overwhelmed by the chilling beginnings of the new Ice Age. In addition to all of the other challenges Dr. Hall faces, he's also going against the flow as humanity races south to warmer climes, and he's nearly the only one going north...

其中一場戲份講述傑克的兒子森姆被困於受洪水肆虐的紐約市，被逼滯留於圖書館內。為了拍出逼真的水災效果，片廠特別設有一個大型的水箱，將紐約市街頭以及曼克頓公共圖書館「搬入」水箱內，再注入25加侖的水，令紐約市被四呎深的水重重圍困著。而暴風雨的效果，則在大型水箱的旁邊再設第二個較小的水箱，並注入15加侖的水。當一聲令下，連接兩個水箱的匣門打開，15加侖的水以每分鐘五千加侖的速度流入大型的水箱內，並加設強勁的吹風系統，吹起浪花高達20呎，成功做出暴風雨的效果，場面更見澎湃驚心。
