9-3(2x-4)
9 - (3*2x - 3*4)
9 - (6x - 12)
9 - 6x + 12
-6x + 12 + 9
-6x + 21
You can take 3 as a comman
3(-6/3x + 21/3)
3(-2x + 7)
cannot be simplifyied anymore
this equation is not complet there must be an equal sign to be come an equation...
I assume your equation is equal to zero
3(-2x + 7) = 0
Now it can be solved
-2*3x + 7*3 = 0
-6x + 21 = 0
-6x + 21 -21 = 0 -21
-6x = -21
-6x*-1 = -21*-1
6x = 21
6x / 6 = 21 / 6
x = (21/3)/(6/3)
x = 7/2
x = 3.5

9 - 3(2x-4)
= 9 - 3 * 2x + 3 * 4
= 9 - 6x + 12
= 9 + 12 - 6x
= 21 - 6x

9 -3(2x -4) : 2x-4 is multiplied by 3 and then subtracted from 9
9 - 3(2x ) -3(-4) : I have separated the two values inside the parentheses and multiplied each by -3.
9 -6x +12 : (-)(+) = (-) and (-)(-) = (+)
-6x + 21 : combining 9 + 12

It's all done according to a conventional order of operations:
1. Evaluate all expressions inside parentheses, brackets, braces, numerators, and denominators.
2. Evaluate all exponents and roots.
3. Multiply and divide from left to right.
4. Add and subtract from left to right.

Firstly, according to the Order Of Operations, you start with the problem in the parenthesis, i.e 2x-4(if "x" is an unknown then you just have to enclose 3 in an external parenthesis as shown below.
9-[3(2x-4)]= 9-(6x-4)= 9-6x+4 = 9+4-6x =10-6x your final answer. BUT if the symbol "x" stands for the multiplication sign, then you would have to multiply out the equation in the parenthesis (2 X -4) which would result in -8. Then you further multiply it by 3 to give -24, after which you subtract from 9, to give +34 {since negative-negative gives positive}. Thus your equation would be like this:
9-[3(2 X -4)] = 9-[3(-8)] = 9-[3 X -8] = 9-[-24] = 9+24=33
I hope i answered your question satisfiably.

9-3(2x-4) =
9-3 = 6
6(2x-4) = 12x-24 - to isolate x - divide by 12
which is 12x - 24 / 12 =
x = 2

I haven't done algebra in years, so if I'm wrong, do your own homework...
1. 9-3(2x-4) -9 = 0 + 9
3(2x-4) = 9
3(2x -4) /3 = 9/3
2x-4 = 3
2x = 3 +4
2x = 7
x = 3.5

At least that's what I got the first time...

The SECOND TIME:

2. 9-3(2x-4)
9 - 3(2x) - 3(4) = 9 - 6x + 12
9+12 -6x = 21-6x
21-6x/6 = 21/6 - 6x/6
x= 3.5

You started a battle with my husband about this one by the way...

9-3(2x-4)

First you need to simplify the brackets so just multiply the -3 into all the terms (terms are separated by an addition or subtraction sign)

9 - 6x + 12

Then gather the like terms..

21 - 6x

There's your simplified form.

EDIT: Huh, why are people solving it?
2008-01-13 5:19 am
Start with the multiplication:
9 - (6x-12)
9 + (-6x +12)
21 - 6x
參考: math
2008-01-13 5:17 am
9 - 6X + 12

- 6X +12 + 9 (BY RULE OF TRANSPOSITION)

- 6X + 21 (SIMPLIFIED)

100% SURE!!!!

I always used "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally", or PEMDAS, for problems like that. That will give you the order of operations:

P = Parenthesis
E = Exponents
M = Multiplication
D = Division
A = Addition
S = Subtraction

Step 1: Distribute -3 (multiplication) "3" into the parenthesis giving you 9-6x+12.
Step 2: Simplify by adding nine and twelve. -6x+21 is the answer I believe to be correct.

multiply nine times two x thn nine times negative four thn negative three times two x thn negavtive three tmes negavtive four = 18x-5-6x+12 = -6x+8. i thnk

Multiply -3 into the whole parentheses.

You get 9-6x+12=0

Next. -6x=-21

Divide Out

-21/-6=21/6

So, x=7/2

FACTOR THE THREE.....
9-(3)(2X)-(3)(-4) => 9-(6X)+(12) => [9+12]-6X =>

YOUR ANSWER 21-6X
2008-01-13 5:13 am
When something is in parenthesis, just simplify it by separating the two numbers and multiplying them by the 3.

9-3(2x) -3(-4)=9-3(2x-4)

Which goes to -6x+21
2008-01-13 5:13 am
First remove the brackets:

9-3(2x-4) = 9-6x + 12 = -6x + 21, now if you need you can factorize:
-3(2x - 7)

Hope that helps,

Kempos

I believe its 9-6x-12.
You can't solve for X because there's no = in the equation.
What I did was just multiply what was in the () by 3, because 3 was right next to them (which means to multiply in algebra).

good luck!
2008-01-13 5:12 am
you must eliminate the "( )", if you have a sign "-" before ( )you must change the sign of all inside:

9-3(2x-4)
=
9+3(-2x+4)
= (law of signs)
9-6x+12
=
21-6x
=
3(7-2x)
2008-01-13 5:12 am
9-3(2x-4)

6(2x-4)

You need to have more, like is it = something, or do you know the value of x? If not, you cant solve it.
2008-01-13 5:12 am
Distribute the 3, then combine like terms

9 - 6x + 12
21 - 6x
2008-01-13 5:12 am
9-3(2x-4)
6(2x-4)
12x-24............ is the answer
2008-01-13 5:12 am
