The present day People's Republic of China(PRC) is, to a great extent, still a socialist country.
It has more capitalistic features after reform and opening:
1) It has a market economy(stock market, govt. has less intervention into business compared to the old days)
2) The Communist Party now recognises the status of capitalists and allows private ownership
3) Investments/trades with other capitalist countries(eg USA)
4) Because of less govt intervention, there are a lot of problems created by market forces such as inflation and widening wealth gap
However it still has got more socialist features. It is still quite conservative and thus, still a socialist state.
1) One party rule(only the Communist Party of China(CPC), but not any other political parties can share power with it)
2) Tight control on the mass media-> very limited freedom of speech
3) Emphasis on Marxism -> Control of thoughts of the people
4) Central party schools and Special Schools teaching Marxism -> education for the party members and cadres(幹部)
5) High percentage of state-owned enterprises (Developing countries: around 10% ; China: 30%)
6) Still planned economy (5 year proposals, New Socialist Countryside etc.)
=> One party rule is one of the most essential features in a socialist state. Thus to a great extent, the PRC is still a socialist country.
