need algebra 1 help?

I need to solve:
7x=1+2x

if it's possible to avoid giving the answer, that would be great. but please list the steps.

i'm sure it's easy, but i've been stuck on this all day.
Thank You so much! :-)

Subtract 2x on both sides. It becomes: 5x = 1
Divide 5 on both sides
x=1/5
2008-01-08 2:40 pm
7x - 2x = 1
5x = 1
x = 1 / 5

Check
LHS
7x = 7/5

RHS
1 + 2x = 1 + 2/5 = 7/5

LHS = RHS

first you combine the common factors so
7x = 1 + 2x

-> 7x - 2x = 1

then you work it out

--> 5x = 1

then solve for x by dividing 5 over to the other side

x = 1/5

there you go

The first step you would want to take is combining the like terms, in this case the 7x and the 2x. You do this by subtracting 2x from each side. The problem then looks like this:

5x=1

After you get to this step you want to get the x by itself, so you must divide each side by 5; giving you x= 1/5.

Whenever you are working a problem like this remember to always combine like terms, and whenever you do an operation (multiplication, addition, etc.) to one side of an equation, you have to do it to the other side as well.

Get all the x terms on one side of the equation.

7x = 1 + 2x

Try to get 2x on the same side as the 7x. So subtract 2x from both sides:

7x - 2x = 1 + 2x - 2x

5x = 1

Then divide both side by 5 to get x by itself.

you need to group the "like terms"

7x-2x=1

after that you subtract

5x=1

to isolate the x from the number you must divide the number 5 from both sides, so the 5 on the left side disappears, so this is how it will look

x=1/5 is your answer

7x = 1 + 2x

step 1: move all the common terms on one side the one in the center separating the two sides is the equal (=) sign

step 2: when you move one no. to another side it should be chaged to its opposite (negative and positive) meaning when you move a positive no. to the other side that positive no. will become a negative no. and when you move a negative no. to the other side it will becom a positive no.

7x - 2x = 1

step 3: simply simplify all nos. make sure all os. with variables are on one side and those without variables are on the other

5x = 1

step 4: to isolate the variable (x) divide both sides by the no. which has a variable with it

5x/5 = 1/5

and the answer should be:

0.2 or 1/5

Step 1- Bring all x terms one one side and all numbers on the other side
Step 2- simplify (add , subtract) so that you have the single term
Step 3- You have the answer
2008-01-08 8:41 am
7x=1+2x
subtract x from both sides
5x=1
divide x
x=1/5 or .20
CHECK YOUR ANSWER:
7x=1+2x
7*1/5=1+2*1/5
1.4=1+.40
1.4=1.4
Sorry to give you the answer but thats the only way i could show you
2008-01-08 8:40 am
7x = 1 + 2x
7x - 2x = 1
5x = 1
x = 1/5 or 0.2
